Superior Township real estate covers 35 square miles of land in the county of Washtenaw in Michigan. Superior Township began as a strong agricultural community in the early 1800s and has continued to grow over the next two centuries. The first settlers arrived in the mid-1820s when the federal government was encouraging expansion. Beginning in 1826 settlers in the township worked for incorporation, and in 1828 the area was incorporated as the Township of Panama. However, it was not until 1883 that the residents got their original wish and Panama Township split into two separate townships, Salem and Superior. Superior Township was officially recognized in an 1881 publication on the history of Washtenaw County. In 1941 both a bomber plant and an airport were constructed in Willow Run, which contributed to the economic growth of the township.

Shopping and Dining

A variety of shopping and dining options near Superior Township real estate can be found in Ypsilanti just 11 minutes from the township. Some small stores like Real Kidz, a shop for children, are located right in the heart of Superior Township. Most big chain stores along with the widest variety of shopping for residents and tourists are located in Ann Arbor, both downtown and at places like the Briarwood Mall. The Border-to-Border Trail runs through the township along the Huron River and continues for 35 miles into the Huron Forest. This trail is a multi-use hiking and biking trail and is not for motorized vehicles.

Multiple parks, trails and nature preserves in Superior Township also provide residents with access to the outdoors and natural recreation. The Esek Pray Trail runs along what used to be a main thoroughfare through the township and takes hikers and walkers past multiple natural and historical sites along its path. The Cherry Hill Nature Preserve abounds with rolling hills and meadows and provides multiple different walking paths for residents looking for a quiet, leisurely stroll.

For those searching for a historical outing, a visit to Dixboro Village can provide a link between the present and the past. The old schoolhouse in Dixboro provides a look into the past and the old United Methodist Church, built in 1858, is still in use today. The Staebler Farm, with its barn originally built prior to 1880, and today managed by Washtenaw County, is yet another historical outing for residents of Superior to enjoy.

The township is served by four school districts: Willow Run, Ann Arbor, Plymouth-Canton and Ypsilanti, and students attending public school will attend school in one of these districts depending on where they live.

Residents needing medical care can get the treatment they need at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital within township limits. Alternatively, residents can go to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor instead. Superior Township is a short drive away from Interstates 94 and 275, and is also close to U.S. highway 23.
