Chelsea, Michigan, is able to provide what so many other cities its size promise but rarely are able to deliver: a truly genuine small-town atmosphere seamlessly blending with big city amenities and conveniences. The more you learn about Chelsea real estate in and around the community, the less you will wonder why it has enjoyed an incredible population increase - nearly 14 percent since 2000 - to more than 4,940 in 2012, according to the informational website, Sperling's Best Places. Watch the videos below narrated by local celebrity Jeff Daniels.

Take a lovely, 15-mile drive west of Ann Arbor on Interstate 94 and when you hit Michigan State Highway 52, take a left (north) and you have discovered Chelsea. If you continue north on Highway 52, past the Pierce Lake Golf Course, through the middle of town, and follow the road's gradual northwest jaunt, you will find that in a few short miles, you are in the 11,000-acre Pinckney State Recreation Area, adjacent to the 25,000-acre Waterloo State Recreation Area.  Looking for a home in the area, trying using the Listings Search tab above to view an inventory of active properties.

Before you head out to one of those parks or into Ann Arbor itself for a self-guided tour of the University of Michigan, take some time out and allow yourself the chance to explore the eclectic, definitive architecture beautifying the streets, cul-de-sacs and avenues of the city of Chelsea. If you are visiting the community in order to check out the wide range of homes for sale in Chelsea, you might like to know that the median cost for a home, according to Sperling's, is $162,800, with the appreciation averaging nearly 2 percent.

Steeped in American history, the community recently gained inclusion on the prestigious list of the National Register of Historic Places. Victorian-era homes for sale in Chelsea dot many of the bucolic neighborhood streets; the small town boasts a flourishing and walkable shopping, dining and entertainment district; and two of the city's biggest companies - Chelsea Teddy Bear Company and Chelsea Milling, Jiffy Mix's home - provide tours for visitors.

Another singular feature that separates Chelsea from the vast majority of towns its size is the amazing commitment to, and vitality of, its art scene. Thanks to actor Jeff Daniels (Dumb and Dumber, The Squid and the Whale and Looper), one of the inaugural inductees to the Michigan Walk of Fame, The Purple Rose Theater was founded here bringing in nationally famous playwrights. It's named after the movie, The Purple Rose of Cairo, for which Daniels was nominated for a Golden Globe award.
