Lodi Township real estate is located just outside of Ann Arbor, Michigan and is close to the University of Michigan and other major landmarks in Washtenaw County. The Legislative Council in Michigan established Lodi Township in 1834, although a voting community existed there as early as 1831 and there were settlers in the area as early as 1826. The township began to see rapid growth in 1829 with the erection of the Briggs Sawmill, followed by the Johnson Mill in 1838. A Presbyterian congregation was also established in the 1830s and it was not until the 1850s that a more diverse religious population, including Baptists, gained a presence. Despite growth in the township over a number of decades, the actual physical space of the township has remained at 19,228 acres since its establishment. There were originally 160 farms in Lodi Township and agricultural production of potatoes and hay helped to develop this township into “one of the richest agricultural districts in the country.”
