Bel Air Buys: The Most Expensive U.S. Listing, Moat and Heli-Pad Included

Screen Shot 2017-01-27 at 3.02.54 PM

While the White House may be the most expensive fake Home listing, this listing for a newly built Bel Air estate takes the cake for the priciest pad at a shocking $250 million.

With it’s own heli-pad and a 12-car garage, this space looks more like a mod office complex than a private dwelling. Some of it’s lux amenities include: a moat (?!), an arcade with a wall of candy dispensers, a  four-lane bowling alley, an 85-foot Italian glass infinity pool fitted with an hydraulic theater-sized movie screen, and an additional 40-seat, James Bond-themed home cinema.

Located in Bel Air (where else), the 38,000 square foot property features 12 bedrooms, 21 bathrooms, five bars and three kitchens. More bars than kitchens? We like that type of party style.

Bob Hope’s UFO Home Sells for $13 Million

by Tom Stachler,ABR,CDPE - Group One Realty Team

Bob Hope’s house in Palm Springs sold for $13 million. Having gone through a couple of price cuts over the last three years, the most recent cut lowered the ask to $25 million. But with no comps available, how does one actually price a concrete spaceship? Seems that when $25 million was thrown at the wall, $13 million stuck.

The Palm Springs spaceship/volcano house, designed for Bob and Dolores Hope by John Lautner in 1973, needed a buyer with deep pockets who would appreciate its futuristic leanings, have appreciation for architects who think outside the box, and young enough at heart to enjoy a bit of whimsy.

At 23,000 square feet under a dramatic and soaring undulating roof, the unique house has open spaces in the walls and ceiling, allowing daylight or stars to shine through, casting shapely shadows into the interior. These curved openings also allow for stunning views across the landscape and mountains, while appearing to be nestled comfortably into its well-designed desert landscaping and outdoor living areas. The house also has a spa with greenhouse wall, six bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, indoor and outdoor pools, a pond, putting greens and a tennis court.

Obamas' New House in Washington DC

See Even More New Photos of the Obamas' New house

It's not quite the White House, but with eight bedrooms and 8,200 square feet, it still has plenty of space to stretch out after the president's eight years in office.

In late the Obama family is moving to an 8,200-square-foot house they'll be renting in the exclusive Kalorama neighborhood of Washington, D.C. after they leave the White House.

And now we can give you a tour of the inside. Keep in mind that these photos are from before the house sold in 2014, so it will probably look quite different when the Obamas move in early next year. Scroll down for a peek inside.

See Inside Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner's New House in Washington, D.C.

See Inside Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner's New house in Washington, D.C.

The future first daughter and her husband are moving to the Kalorama neighborhood in the nation's capital

The Home address as 2449 Tracy Place NW, in Kalorama (above). That means they will be literally around the corner (only a three-minute walk!) from the Obamas, who are moving into an 8,200-square-foot house at 2446 Belmont Road NW after they leave the White House.

Well it would seem that the Trump/Kushner clan will get more for their money in DC in D.C. than in New York, where they currently live in a $10.2 million apartment. Plus, Terrazas said, "neighborhoods like Kalorama and Georgetown have a historic charm that's maybe lacking in Manhattan."

While the six-bedroom, 6,7870-square-foot house sold for $5.5 million—$100,000 less than the asking price—on December 22, the identity of the buyer has not been disclosed, so Trump and Kushner might be renting it from the buyer if they're not the buyers themselves.

The 1923 house, designed by architect Waddy Wood, previously sold for $3.5 million in 2013. Below, check out the house's interior, which includes five wood-burning fireplaces and a master suite with walk-in closets, a soaking tub, and a deck that overlooks the garden.

Famous Encino, Calif. Home Hops on Market

Encino

Fans of the Fox show "24," listen up: Jack Bauer's fictional home is now for sale for a cool $3.9 million. The posh space, located at 4620 Rubio Ave in Encino, Calif., was also featured in "CSI" and the 90s classic "Beverly Hills, 90210."

Stretching 6,000 square feet with 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, the modern home was designed in 1939 by prominent architect J.R. Davidson, who went on to design three Arts & Architecture magazine Case Study homes.

The one story home sits on two-thirds of a seriously lush acre, with a pool perfect for lounging, sleek spaces for entertaining both indoors and out, a home gym, an outdoor kitchen, fireplace and fire pit. If that's not impressive enough, you'll be comforted to know that early photos of the residence hang in the Getty Center.

Brian Wilson’s Lake Arrowhead Estate

by Tom Stachler,ABR,CDPE - Group One Realty Team

brian_wilson_lake_arrowheadAfter Elvis and before the Beatles, the Beach Boys were America’s favorite rock ‘n’ roll group. The band, led by Brian Wilson and his two brothers, a cousin and a family friend, began performing in 1961 in Hawthorne, Calif., as The Pendletones. Within less than two years—and a name change later—the Beach Boys ruled the U.S. airwaves with “Surfin’ Safari,” “Surfin’ USA” and “Surfer Girl.” Between the Boys’ own hits and the No. 1 song “Surf City” that Wilson wrote and produced for American rock duo Jan and Dean, Wilson pretty much created the California beach music sound.

Today, Wilson and his wife Melinda are surfing onto the real estate scene, having recently listed their professionally decorated vacation retreat on Lake Arrowhead in the San Bernardino National Forest west of Los Angeles. At 4,500 square feet, the five-bedroom, five-bathroom, three-story Home is equipped with an elevator to access each floor, terraces/balconies on each level, two fireplaces and views of the lake from all the common rooms. A perfect blend of formal and casual, soaring ceilings give the interior an airy, cheerful vibe. The open layout lends itself to entertaining, as does the outdoor kitchen on the deck overlooking the lake. A single, solar-powered boat slip is included in the sale. Wilson had another home in Lake Arrowhead that he sold in 2003 to buy an equestrian property for his daughters, but he returned to the area in 2011.

Lake Arrowhead has been a peaceful retreat for the rich and famous and a backdrop in films since the early 1900s. Early actors decided to build vacation homes in the area after making films in the prestigious locale, and, today, many celebrities continue to visit and own homes there. Lake Arrowhead has been a popular hangout for Howard Hughes, Charles Lindbergh, Bugsy Siegel, Michael Jackson and many others.

Home of Harry Potter Hits the Market

The Wizarding Home of Harry Potter Hits the Market

Harry Potter

If Potterheads were to consider investing in some Harry Potter real estate, they’d probably aim for the Hogwarts castle. Yet, while the castle is indeed stunning, Potterheads must also remember their muggle condition. And for muggles, 4 Privet Drive, in Little Whingeing, Surrey is probably as close as they’re going to get to the magic.

Turns out the Dursley residence featured in the 2001 Harry Potter film (replaced by a set in later films) is actually a pretty quaint three-bedroom home in Martins Heron, Bracknell, England. On top of that, it comes with a well-sized garden, a renovated kitchen, and stands a few blocks away from the nearest train station.

So hold on to your broomsticks because for just half-a-million pounds, £475,000 to be exact, Harry’s cupboard under the stairs (and the whole house that comes with it) could be yours.

The house had hit the market twice before since the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, once in 2003 in the hopes of making a profit by piggybacking on the success of the film, and again in 2010 for £290,000 pounds. The current owner, Sandra Smith, is now testing to see if Harry Potter has cast a big enough spell on the property to make her more than the comparable £250,000 average sale price.

Of course, Smith also has to take into account that buyers might be thinking of Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon before making an offer. That’s not the kind of aura you want to surround yourself with. Plus, you run the risk of engendering the likes of Dudley Dursley and not receiving your mail on time.

I’d definitely pick this as my new residence if I were considering a move to England, but to be honest, I would probably never leave the cupboard. All things considered, that might also be a sound plan of action given that fans still show up at “4 Privet Drive” in the hopes of finding, as I would, a young Harry shivering under the stairs. So, if you want it, either accio yourself some money or alohamora the heck into that place.

Totally your call, young wizard.

L.A. Reid Lives it Up in LA Mega New Mansion

by Tom Stachler,ABR,CDPE - Group One Realty Team

L.A. Reid Lives it Up in LA Mega Mansion

Reid

As everyone remains distracted with Olympic activity in Rio, music executive, producer and ex X Factor judge Antonio “L.A.” Reid has slid into a brand new mansion on the west side of L.A.

While music moguls snatching up mega mansions in Los Angeles is hardly breaking news, Reid's new pad scored for a hearty $17.99 million—is an epic piece of architecture, to say the least.

Sprawling over 11,200 square feet, the Home includes a 300-bottle wine cellar, a home theater, a bar and a gym.  The home boasts seven bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, and Reid can take one of two floating glass staircases or an elevator to the three floors in his new posh pad. Beyond the home's walls, 2,820 square feet of outdoor living space offers ample room for an infinity pool, an outdoor kitchen, a bar and a baja deck.

Built in 2015, the property entered the market at $27.5 million. The price eventually dropped to $20 million before Reid gobbled it up for a “bargain” of under $18 million on July 21.
