Things To Do In August In Washtenaw County

Summer is nearing an end. Good thing there is plenty of things to do in Washtenaw County for August to take advantage of the warmth and weather. Cities from Ypsilanti, Chelsea, Ann Arbor and Dexter are full of fun things to do. 

 

The Ton-Up | Ypsilanti

August 11, 12 – 7 p.m. | Arbor Brewing Company Microbrewery  

The Ton-Up is a motorcycle and music festival. This year is the tenth time this festival has came to Ypsilanti. This one-day event will bring vintage and custom motorcycles, scooters and mopeds to local music.. 

 

Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival | Dexter

August 12 – 17 | Monument Park

This is an outdoor event where local and out of town artists paint outside over the course of a long 4 day weekend. Afterwards, you are able to view and purchase artwork in the Tent Gallery. 

 

Ann Arbor Blues Festival | Ann Arbor

August 16 – 18 | Washtenaw Farm Council Fairgrounds

Since 1969, Blues lovers from all over came to the Washtenaw Farm Council Fairgrounds to sing and dance to Blues. This year is no different. Come re-live the blues glory days at this legendary event. Buy your tickets in advance. 

 

DIYpsi | Ypsilanti

August 24 – 25 | Arbor Brewing Company Microbrewery

DIYpsi is a famous art fair that takes place in, you may have guessed, Ypsilanti- once each summer and winter. Crafters sell handmade items of all kinds. Come out to support local vendors that make food, gifts, toys, and unique items. This year’s summer event features more than 90 vendors at ABC Microbrewery! 

Ann Arbor Triathlon | Dexter

August 3, 7:30 a.m. | Pinckney Recreation Area  

The Ann Arbor Triathlon is not for the weak. Participants do all three- running, biking and swimming. Starting at Halfmoon Lake in Pinckney State Recreation Area, you’ll swim the waters of Halfmoon, bike the country roads of the surrounding rural area, then run the 5-mile Poto Trail course to complete the challenge.

Ann Arbor Pride  I Ann Arbor

August 3rd 9 a.m. - August 4th 6 p.m.

Ann Arbor Pride has been promoting equality for LGBTQ for decades now. The event also donates all proceeds to the Jim Toy Community Center. The celebrations will take place in Kerrytown and will include food, music, fun, colorful clothing, and of course, pride. This year is the 25th anniversary, so special events will take place. 

Saline’s Summerfest | Saline

August 9 – 10 | Downtown Saline

Returning to the streets of Downtown Saline this month, Saline’s Summerfest is a hometown celebration like none other. In 2019, the event promises even more activities, attractions and amusements, but with all the local flare we’ve come to love.

 

Chelsea Community Fair | Chelsea

August 20 – 24 | Chelsea Community Fairgrounds

The Chelsea Community Fair is a beloved festival hat includes a rodeo, multiple tractor pulls, livestock competitions and auctions, demolition derbies, a local merchant tent, and more.

 

YpsiFest | Ypsilanti

August 23 – 25 | Riverside Park

In 2019, the Ypsilanti Heritage, Arts, and Entertainment Festival will be bigger and better than ever before. Over the course of three days, you can enjoy live trivia in the entertainment tent, daily helicopter rides, a kids’ area with bounce houses, pony rides and games, a classic car show, the Rubber Ducky Race, a BBQ competition and more.

 

Saline Community Fair | Saline

August 28 – September 1 | Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds

Every year, the Saline Community Fair brings together the community to celebrate Saline’s favorite activities, local vendors and organizations. This year’s event will feature tractor pulls, carnival rides, racing and derbies, rodeo presentations, livestock and animal competitions and so much more.

July Things To Do In Ann Arbor and Surrounding Areas

Summer time in Washtenaw County is filled with lots of activities for families, friends, and children to partake in. We've rounded up some of the best activities during July 2019 that take place in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, and Chelsea.

 

 

Fourth of July Parade (July 4)

A long standing tradition is to enjoy  the Fourth of July in downtown Ann Arbor. The 27th annual 4th of July Parade hosted by the Ann Arbor starts at 10 a.m. The parade begins at the intersection of State and William streets. 

Chill by the pool in Ann Arbor (any day)

If you’re looking to cool down in water,  the city of Ann Arbor operates three outdoor pools: Buhr Park Outdoor Pool (2751 Packard Road), Fuller Park Pool (1519 Fuller Road) and Veterans Memorial Park Outdoor Pool (150 Jackson Ave.). You can Find Rates Here.

Rolling Sculpture Car Show (July 14)

For a Woodward Cruise-type of event, downtown Ann Arbor for the annual Rolling Sculpture Car Show is the event to attend. Last year’s show featured more than 300 exotic, antique, classic and concept cars.

2017 Summer Beer Festival (July 21-22)

For local beer lovers, you can try samplings from more than 100 Michigan breweries, in addition to hearing live music at the annual Summer Beer Festival on July 21 and 22 in Ypsilanti’s Riverside Park.

Ann Arbor Art Fairs (July 20-23)

During one of the most popular events of the summer, the streets of downtown Ann Arbor are expected to be packed for one of the largest outdoor art fairs in the nation during the Ann Arbor Art Fairs.

Original works of art, street performances, culinary treats and a variety of sidewalk sales can be found during the annual event, which features four different art fairs from artists across the globe. Chelsea Sounds and Sights Festival (July 27-29)

Live music fills the streets of downtown Chelsea from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. every Thursday, beginning June 8 through Aug. 17 during the Chelsea Sounds and Sights Festival.

The festival also features a weekend festival featuring live music, art, a car show, entertainment for children and more from July 27 through 29. For more information, visit the festival's website.

Midnight Madness

Come join in the party on Main Street in downtown Ann Arbor! On Friday, Dec. 6th, a number of the stores along Main Street will stay open late for you to take advantage of myriad holiday sales. Also, enjoy special entertainment and hopefully run into both Santa Claus and Miss Washtenaw County, who will both roam the sidewalks between 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. For more information, visit the Main Street Area Association's website.

 

Chelsea Annual Light Parade

Enjoy the city of Chelsea's 9th annual Light Parade! In addition to the dozens of lighted floats and vehicles, this sparkling event features a number of marching bands and Jolly Old Saint Nicholas himself! The parade begins at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7th at Chelsea State Bank’s south parking lot and winds up at the Chelsea Teddy Bear Company, where you can revel in the free community afterglow party with refreshments.

Holiday Hustle 5K Run

Burn some of those holiday calories off by participating in the Holiday Hustle Run charity event at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7th, in downtown Dexter. Participants receive one raffle ticket for each canned or other non-perishable food items donated. The first 500 participants to register receive a choice of some jingling or flashing flare to wear during the run.

Saline Christmas Parade

The 38th Annual Saline Christmas Parade takes place on Saturday, Dec. 7th, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in downtown Saline. The parade features Santa Claus with his chief elf riding on his sleigh, Mrs. Claus, baton twirlers, a hot-air balloon, myriad floats, bands, horses, goats and donkeys.

Come Play during the Annual Chelsea SummerFest!

        Are you looking for something fun to do in Chelsea MI on a hot summer day?  On July 25 and July 26, 2008, the annual Chelsea SummerFest will be here!  Here in the Ann Arbor area, this wonderful summer festival in historic Chelsea began over three decades ago and draws visitors from across the state and beyond.  Popular activities include fine art and crafts displays, merchant sales, vendor booths, live music, children's crafts and activities, a class car show, and tons more.  There is a wide variety of food, fun, live entertainment, fine crafts, art and more for everyone!
       The Food & Entertainment Court at SummerFest is located in parking Lot #2, which is behind the Common Grill restaurant.  There are other local restaurants providing delicious food and drinks including the Common Grill, Cleary's Pub, Thompson's Pizza and Zou Zou's Cafe.  Food will be served from 5:00 until 10:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.  There are also two stages, the Library Stage and the Main Stage in the Food & Entertainment Court, featuring a variety of live musical performances on both days that are perfect for the whole family.
       Don't forget to participate in the Pet Parade, hosted by Chelsea Farmer Supply, as it is a long time favorite tradition of Chelsea's SummerFest.  This year's theme will be "The Tropics."  To participate in this year's parade with your pet, please contact us.  The parade starts at Chelsea Farmer Supply on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.  The route continues as follows:  East on Jackson to East Street, South on East Street to E Middle, West on E Middle to Main, North on Main across train tracks and through the Clocktower entrance over to the Kid Zone area.  The parade wraps up at SummerFest's Kid Zone where contest awards will be given out.  Come out to the Chelsea SummerFest and enjoy this annual community celebration!  Chelsea is a terrific place to live and if you are searching for homes in Chelsea, please click here.
