About Chelsea Michigan

Chelsea, first settled in 1850, offers a diverse collection of historic homes and buildings, many of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The city, initially a station along the Michigan Central Railroad, is now home to the maker of "Jiffy" mix (Chelsea Milling Company), and the Chelsea Teddy Bear Company. Chelsea is also a testing ground for Chrysler Daimler Motors.

Chelsea offers a variety of shopping and dining opportunities. The historic downtown shopping district features a number of art galleries and antique shops as well as a thriving arts center. There's a popular farmers' market that sets up every Saturday from June through October. Restaurants range from Mexican food, to Irish pub fare, to standard American burgers and fries.

Chelsea sits adjacent to the 25,000-acre Waterloo Recreation area, home to 47 miles of hiking and biking trails, 11 recreational lakes, miles of cross country ski trails, abundant wildlife and an equestrian center. In addition, the City of Chelsea owns and manages three city parks, with facilities that include playgrounds, ball fields, and picnic or grilling areas. For golfing enthusiasts, there are no fewer than 20 golf courses within a 20-minute drive of the city.
